It may matter.
But you need to test for yourself.

What do the “Experts” say?
I put experts in quotation marks. Just because they may know more about wine than you do, it doesn’t make them an expert on you and your preferences.
Here are the official best serving temperatures for red wine, or at least the “generally recommended serving temperatures”:
For Light Bodied red wines: 55°F (13°C)
Examples of these: Beaujolais and Valpolicella
For Medium/Full Bodied Red:
Room Temperature: 59-64°F (15-18°C)
Examples of these: Red Bordeaux (not all), Red Burgundy (not all), Rioja, Australian Shiraz, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Amarone (and more)
If you are asking, what they mean by body:
Think skim milk, whole milk, and cream. Mouthfeel.

Now that we know what the temperature of the wine should be, my video editor and I did an informal and fun test of this.
Check out our YouTube video here:
We were both surprised with some of the results.
We also didn’t totally agree with each other.
No surprise here:
There is no one perfect temperature for everyone.
Room temperature is such a vague term. In general, it does not mean the standard 68° F (20° C). The room temperature referred to for red wine is way cooler than that.
While drinking wine too warm may make the wine less enjoyable, drinking it too cold has its own issues.
So, if you are wondering if your wines could taste better, do a temperature check. You don’t need anything fancy to do it.
Just any thermometer that can go below a certain temp will do.
Or skip the thermometer, and just see if your wine tastes better or worse the longer it is in the glass.
We’ll do a YouTube video for white wines another day.
Wine should be an addition to your life.
No point in not getting the most out of it with just a simple fix.
