There are basically two types of wine clubs:
1) There are wine clubs connected to a winery. Almost every winery you visit has one. Trust me, they will let you know. It’s a great deal for them not having to deal with a distributor.
2) Then there are an equally incredible amount of what are sometimes called wine subscription clubs.
The choices within each are really overwhelming.
Before you join any wine club, ask yourself these questions.
Why?
Answers for that will range. It could be: I can’t get wine near me, I like someone choosing for me, it’s a great deal, I want to try different wines and I want to learn.
The answer will determine what wine club you may want, or if you want one at all.
Does my state or country allow wine to be delivered?
Crazy different rules in each state for delivery. Some wineries can’t ship to you, or don’t want to hassle with the rules of your state. Rules for different countries also come into play.
Do I drink enough wine to have it delivered whether I want it or not?
Wineries deliver on a set schedule. Did you just watch my YouTube video? They all come in at once.
Any wine club is a commitment. Ready or not, here it comes!
What will this cost, and what’s in it for me?!?!?
Back to your “why?” Do these clubs offer enough of what you want and why you want it? Will the wines that arrive be at a price point you are comfortable with.
Am I prepared to make a commitment and how much of it do I have to make?
Check this out!! You sign up for a good deal, the club wants a commitment in return. Look into this!
Will I be able to make substitutions?
Some places require you to accept what they are offering. I hate that! Make sure you have options should you want them.
Do I want to feel special? How special?
Special can vary. I mentioned in the YouTube video that one of the wineries sends personalized notes inside the shipment. It’s a really nice touch that makes you feel like you are not just a number.
Some places offer special member only events. Can you get there?
Some wine clubs don’t try at all. Other wine clubs act like they are doing YOU a favor. What’s up with that?
