Ultimate Guide For Insanely Fun Wines For Watching Sports!

2 wine glasses and a broken bottle of beer

Make room for wine when watching sports!!

Wine? Not beer?

NOPE!

Even better! You don’t want just any wine!

You want wines that are as much fun as hanging out with friends and watching sports!

Here is your Ultimate Guide for doing just that!

WOO!

This guide is for watching any and all sports. It’s good for any game night or casual get together.

It is not just about Super Bowl. The internet goes nuts around that time with what foods to eat and what to drink.

I’m so tired of everyone talking about Beer and Bites! It is always BEER, BEER, BEER!

Move over beer!

I just published a new YouTube video about this!! Woo!

Check it out here:

Comment! I really do love hearing from wine fans!!!

If watching sports on TV and drinking wine are not the perfect pair, it definitely should be!

Wine should add to your life. It isn’t just a beer replacement.

Let’s do this!

This is not the time to match the wine to the food. This is the time to match the wine with the event.

We are looking for fun wines!

As always, don’t overthink or overspend!!

Fine wine really has no place here. There is a time and a place for that!

Watching sports on television is not that time or place.

Read the room!

I saw an article that matched the best wines with anything you may eat at a Super Bowl party.

Ridiculous!!

No one, and I mean no one, needs a perfect wine to go with a jalapeno popper.

There is no need to get all matchy matchy with the food and wine.

We are here for fun!

Public service announcement:

Do not be “that guy”, guy or not, who shows up at someone’s house and complains that there is only beer!

If you want something specific, bring it with you and share.

Share! Sharing wine is fun!

Game Time Advice:

If it is a long game, whatever it is (be honest, what televised sporting events are short?), go with lower alcohol.

Beer has about 5% alcohol. Wine can have upwards of 12% alcohol. You do the math. If you’re going to drink at the same rate as a beer drinker, it may get ugly if you choose a high alcohol wine. Actually, any wine could get ugly if you are chugging it down.

Go lower cost too, because why not?

So let’s choose something bubbly that is reasonably inexpensive and fun to drink.

Bubbles turn everything into a fun event!

3 glasses of sparkling wine

Does not have to be Champagne!

Unless, of course, your team is in the Super Bowl! Or you just feel like celebrating with Champagne!

If you just thought:

Wait! What? “Isn’t all sparkling wine Champagne?”, now may be a great time to read my post:

It’s a fun read regardless. A little knowledge goes a long way!

A great suggestion for sparkling wine is Cava.

Cava is a Spanish sparkling wine that is made the same way Champagne is. I recommend it all the time. If you want to know how often, just type Cava into the archive.

You’re welcome.

Freixenet wine bottle

Freixenet is a great choice for Cava!

Hint: pronounce the x like sh.

There are a lot of really good Cava wines. They should absolutely be reasonably priced.

You can always enjoy a Prosecco.

Most people love Prosecco. I even wrote a post called: Party With Prosecco Now With These 3 Great Ideas! Check it out.

If the watching party is at your house, try some of these ideas out. Fun stuff!

Want a chillable red? Bubbles too?

Look for a Lambrusco.

Canned wine spritzers for the win!

Shout out to Drake! Yep, that Drake!

Bartenura blue bottle

He really put Bartenura on a lot of people’s radar.

The Blue Bottle is a sweet sparkling wine! By the way, it’s kosher.

multiple cans of Bartenura wine

Now they have these canned fruit flavored one!!

They happen to be really delicious! Only 5% alcohol is great for long sporting events! Woo!

Maybe bubbles? Maybe not?

cans of wine

Wine in cans can be a great option!

Just throw the wine cans in with the beer cans! Options!

But wait, there’s more fun choices!

selection of small wine bottles

There are also some fun small bottles you can buy!

Talk about portable!!

If you are going to go with bringing a bottle of wine, I strongly recommend Dry Riesling!

Dry Riesling goes with so many different foods. I always recommend it with spicy food. It’s delicious.

What happens if the party isn’t at a your house or a friend’s?

You can’t just bring your own wine to a restaurant or bar in most cases. If you can, I’m jealous of where you live. BYOB is the best.

Here are some bar or restaurant situation tips for long watch parties!

  • Ask for Prosecco / Cava

  • Ask for wine + soda

  • Ask for a spritz-style drink

Of course, you can also order a delicious bottle of wine! Remember Dry Riesling! Share!

At the end of the day, these wines aren’t about rules. It’s about fun. Pick wines that may work with the food, the crowd, and the length of the game, and you’re already winning.
