Introducing 3 French White Wines That Will Amaze You!

3 french white wine bottles with words prepare to be amazed

Introducing? In what way?

You probably have never tried these! No time like today!

Well what are they!?!?!

So glad you asked!

No time like the present to try some delicious wines that are not the usual ones like Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.

There is nothing wrong with those, but there are so many delicious and reasonably priced alternatives!

Be curious! Be adventurous! Aim for amazing! It’s an exciting world of wine out there.

bottle of French wine Picpoul de Pinet

First up you have the wine Picpoul de Pinet.

Piquepoul blanc is the grape.

If you know this wine already, hat’s off to you. No downside to being reintroduced to it.

Wines made from Piquepoul grapes are found mostly in the south of France near the sea. The region is Languedoc- Roussillon.

The wines are refreshing and an incredible choice for seafood and fish. Just a wonderful reasonably priced wine that is not same old, same old.

Picpoul is high in acidity, which makes it a fantastic wine to enjoy with food.

If you just said, “Eek! Acid, “ you should read my post on: Top 10 things you need to know to have a useful wine. A little knowledge goes a long way. Just saying.

I also have a post that links to it AND a YouTube video about it! Yep, I’m all in on the “a little knowledge goes a long way.” Here you go:

I’ll fill you in on what I said about acid now, though.

You’re welcome.

Acid in wine is the sidekick that can bring life to the party! It can add brightness and make the wine taste more refreshing.

You want balance, too.

Usually when I talk about Italian wines I say they are food wines. They are so much better when you have them with food because of the high acid.

These French wines I am mentioning here are good both with and without food. How great is that?!?!?

Don’t worry whether the wine is called Piquepoul or Picpoul. They are both pronounced the same. It is pretty much “pick pool.” People should understand you if you even come close to that.

I would normally suggest that you buy a few different versions of this wine and compare them. You’d have to find them first, though. Most wine stores carry one at most. That’s why I am assuming you haven’t had this wine.

If you can find just one, enjoy it. Most Picpoul wines I have seen are under $15. Let it add to your life.

If you don’t like it, just move on and find something else you like more.

That’s the joy of wine. Trust that you know best what you like.

Interestingly, sometimes Picpoul is referred to as the Muscadet of the South.

Well, that’s convenient.

Muscadet is next on this delicious list of new wines to try!

Muscadet Sèvre et Maine Sur Lie should be way more popular than it seems to be. It is easier to find than the other two wines I am talking about. Still not top of most people’s minds though.

Just to let you know the wine is 100% Melon de Bourgogne. That’s the name of the grape. It is also pretty low in alcohol.

From Trader Joe’s

Delicious!!

bottle of Muscadet wine

Just bought this one!

I’m excited to try this. It was hidden on the bottom shelf in the French wine section. What’s up with that?

Muscadet Sèvre et Maine Sur Lie should be way more popular than it seems to be. They are almost always less than $20. The wine from Trader Joe’s was less than $10 at the time I purchased it.

This wine is somewhat easier to find than the other two wines I am talking about. Still not top of most people’s minds though.

What does “sur lie” mean, you may ask.

In English it means on dead yeast cells (lees). This probably needs better marketing, but lees are not disgusting at all. Trust me. They add a richer mouth feel to the wine. It’s also in Champagne. Just saying.

Sur Lie in French is pronounced “sir lee.”

Just try to find the wine and enjoy. Again, really popular with fish and shellfish, but no need to limit yourself to that.

I had absolutely never heard of the wine below that amazed me the most:

bottle of Jurançon sec wine

Jurançon Sec is the wine.

Les Cignoles de Jolys is the producer.

I googled how to pronounce all of it.

This wine was insanely delicious. What a find!

Jurançon is a region in southwest France. I was unfamiliar with the region and had never heard of the grapes. Most wines made in the region are sweet. This wine was not. Sec means dry.

My husband and I tried it at a wine tasting and loved it. We bought a bottle to have with dinner. A total WOW!

I went back to the store the next day and bought two more!

As with the other wines I’ve mentioned it is high acid. I truly think you could enjoy this wine with any food.

I love being surprised by how delicious a wine can be.

There is such a joy of discovery!

None of these wines are household names. That’s part of the fun.

Some of the best discoveries happen when you try something completely new. Of course, trying it before you buy helps a lot. So does the reasonable cost.

Go out and discover your own new amazing wines! Trust your taste!

Be curious! Be adventurous! It’s an exciting world of wine out there. You deserve amazing!

Have fun with it!
